How open does the company appear to be to the recommendations of a web analyst?

Actually Dell is the open company that accept the recommendations of a web analyst because Dell was one of the first companies which are understood the potential of the internet performance and Dell is already used the web analytics to develop metrics for its site.

Are they a data-driven organization (from what you can tell)?  Why?.

Yes, DELL is a data-driven organization because it is not only a company that have web analytics and also these analytics have already develop the metrics for this company.  They using data to learn the popular computer search specifications, the satisfaction of customer service , identify geographic and physical location trends. The information make dell to strategically market and make the better products and service to customers.

What are 3 things that you might do to change their company culture to be data-driven (or moreso)?

The first thing I will recommend is duly handle the data they got. Dell have no lack of web analytics and their website are pretty good in the field. But one company in the final analytics, no matter how well the site is, if people don’t like their products, they won’t buy it. Using the data to deal with what kind of is customer need is important.

The second thing I will recommend is to make the site more reasonable. I used to visit dell’s website and I found that a lot of information are located in the corner and hard to find. I visit it again today but the problems still exist. I think they already know what people need and put everything on the landing page but they ignore the right location for each thing.

The last one I will say, using the data which in the personal computer area. I think dell’s business model has unique feature but is sort of sole. That’s way its performance is not that good these year. I think that is because Dell ignore the personal market data. I think properly using it will increasing the performance.

I choose this person because I found out he has a lot of working experience in different companies like Adsmoke, Yahoo!  He is not only an analytic but also an web developer.  The most thing he interest me is he is graduated from MSU.

He not only know web analytics/development but also know advertising and SEO. I think he is success to fit his job because he have comprehensive knowledge system and also abundant working experience.

I think the most important thing for me is their thinking of this job. I think the good one to be pick should treat this job not only a job. He/she should feel the sense of belonging and achievement. And also this person should have strong knowledge and rich experience on this kind of work.

 What particular traits would you look for?

I think for web analytic, beside specific knowledge and working experience, the particular traits I need is understand how to consider things from customers’ point of view. The reason I found this job is because it has high salary and also I’m good at excel and also learned google analytics and A-B testing this semester, that is pretty suit me.

The first thing I should do is to improve my specific knowledge. Although I learned Google Analytics A/B testing and know how to use Excel, I still far from professionals and also because of my major is business management, I  don’t know Database Administration and the other skills list in the requirement. So the first thing  I should know this knoledeges.

The second activity I should do is to on top of using the softwares required. Besides specific knowledge, the only thing I can do is practice. Trying to use these software analysis big websites like amazon and make myself more skillful.

The last thing for me is to build a website or blog and manage it, analysis it for myself to get practical experience of analyzing instead of the knowledge on book, I think I will become more attractive through doing these activities.

I still choose to use LTU because I don’t know other universities more than LTU.

Step 1: Identify and Prioritize Your Audiences

Audiences of LTU should: new and old students, faculty, partner schools, government, local media. I will put new and old students at first place because student decide the feature situation of this school, faculty, is the core energy of this school because they decide the teaching quality and affect the reputation, partner schools can deliver lots of students to LTU every year, actually I am one of these students, local media sometimes decide the local reputation of LTU if we have bad relationships with local media the consequence will be very bad. And the last one is government, good relationship with government can bring a lot of benefits, sometimes when government want train their staff they can train in LTU.

Step 2: Define Your Objectives and Get Everyone on the Same Page

After prioritize audiences, we need to define objectives in each group. For new and old students, the objective should be they satisfied with the knowledge they got and the experience they have during study. They decide the reputation of this school and more people attend LTU because of them and if LTU can’t satisfied them, they will transfer to another school and tell others LTU is not that good to go.  Faculty is the software conditions of LTU, the objective for faculty should be they have the great ability to teach and make student well accepted. Partner schools’ objective is not only deliver more students but also make more people know LTU.  Local media’s objective is to advertise LTU and report it in good ways. Government not only give LTU a lot of opportunities but also can corporation with LTU.

Step 3: Establish a Benchmark

The key of benchmark is comparing with others. LTU should compare with other universities like MSU, UM. To compare the number of students choose each school. Compare the reputation of each school, compare the homepage performance of each school and compare the employment rate of each school.

Step 4: Pick a Measurement Tool and Collect Data

We can compare the amount of application and admission rate of each school by statistic. The reputation from social media and local media can be measured. We can use Google Analytic to measure the performance of website and also compare it.  Employment rate after graduating can be measured by statistic. Measure what people think can be realized by measure social media and local media.

Step 5: Analyze the Data, Glean Insight, Make Changes, and Measure Again

After the measure result show up. We can make changes based on the results. After make changes, we need to use the measurement again and measure each of them and see the difference and see if there still something we need to improve.

Explain how you would recommend Lawrence Technological University measure the effectiveness of their online learning programs?

I will recommend LTU: compare the passing rate between online program and on campus program. Research duration of learning for online program and compare to campus program. Compare the result of evaluation to instructor to the result of campus program. Compare the average score of online program with campus program.

 Back up your recommendations. Who are their audiences and what can a good and bad relationship with each do to LTU?

The audience could be anyone who have the willing to take courses in LTU or who want to work in LTU, also the audience include current student in LTU and current faculty.

A good relationship will make more people want to join LTU either work or study. Current students or faculty might recommend LTU to friends or others and more people will join, faculty will feel confident in LTU and want to stay. Bad relationship will cause current student transfer to other universities, current faculty feel disappointed to this school and want to change their job and people have willing to join LTU will think about other options.

 What types of communications does LTU use? In your personal experience, are the communications effective? Why or why not?

LTU use many kinds of communications like adverting, promotion, scholarship, social media, e-mail, built partnership with oversea schools and even advertising on the guideboard of highway. For me I think mostly the communications of LTU is effective because LTU has great reputation in Michigan. But I would say it is not enough because I attend LTU because this school have partnership with my University in China, but at that time actually I hesitate for a long time because we never heard about that school before I know my program, I’m not sure the situation of this school is worth to attend. When I got here, I know everything is worth but it shows that LTU is not famous oversea even out of Michigan state, I think LTU should make it well known in larger area which can make more students interested in it.

From research ASPCA’s content, it’s easy to find out this organization is very efficiency and have great Social stigma, except its own website, we can see the ASPCA on Facebook, twitter, YouTube and the news for it are all positive, It even establish the animal insurance for animals and professional pages for how to take care of animals.

I research the social media part and found out: 12,961 followers on twitter, 1,138,343 people like the Facebook page and all good report on website. Like I said last assignment, I choose this organization because it is on my debt card, That card is the first time I got there and chosen in bank.  At that time I don’t know this organization, I choose it because the animal on it is very cute. I think advertising part for ASPCA is very successful .

I think the performance of ASPCA is well matching their own messaging.

I even found out the app on mobile phone. But when I download and open it. It kind of disappointed me because I think that is the app like website page which I can search information like animal caring knowledge on it , but that app is just a E-magazine, although it has a lot of information, it still not easy to find because it is like periodical and information is not well classify.

My recommendation for ASPCA will be improve their APP on phone because I believe the reason people use app is because they are hurry to get some information which need easy to find.

The non-profit organization I choose is ASPCA---The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, because the picture of my bank of America card is ASPCA’s advertisement.

Step 1: Use Your Mission to Define Your Objectives

Mission of ASPCA---“to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.” This non-profit organization has already existed for more than 100 years. This organization is aim to protect animal from cruelty and this organization also has its own animal hospital. To measure ASPCA, I will say we can from some aspects: 1.website page view, 2 social media like Facebook and twitter’s pages. Also from the amount of adoption and donation.

Step 2: Identify and Prioritize Your Audiences

The audiences for ASPCA are people who have pets and need to learn specific knowledge of how to take care of them, people who are animal lover, people who have the ability to donate to this organization or want to adopt animal, people who want to be volunteers in this organization.

Step 3: Establish a Benchmark

Compare the ASPCA with similar animal protecting organization like: American Humane Association, Animal Legal Defense Fund and Animal welfare Institute.  We can measure it through the comparison of each website and social media to figure out the difference and also to establish the average level for animal organization.

Step 4: Pick Your Metrics

The main metrics we should measure are: the donation from around the world, adaption rate for animals, The efficiency of hospitals owned by ASPCA, the effects of animal owner who learned specific knowledge of taking care of Animals, the review from people who joined in this organization.

Step 5: Pick a Measurement Tool

Donation and adaption rate can be measured by internal statistics and compare to the past record. Also for the efficiency of hospital ASPCA can calculate the survival rate of animals and compared to past record. We can use Google analytic to measure the website performance and the feedback from animal owners and ASPCA members can be measured by survey and e-mail feedback.
